Veni, vidi, vici … was uttered by Julius Caesar … the impact is still on – this time adding more drama to it. How? Simple – thanks to Masala Bollywood and of course, the multi-faceted singers who are turning singers too…coming, seeing, acting and arguably conquering. The list of singers turned actors are increasing … but only a few are eating the popularity pie. Let’s find them.
Sonu Nigam, the name itself says ‘success’, pronounces ‘magnetism’. Yes, Sonu is one of the most sought-after singers in the industry with a gifted voice. Whatever he sings, it just turns into magic. He has not only given us some of the most popular tracks of all time, he has also tried to woo us with his acting skills. With the experience of having acted as a child actor in several films like ‘Kaamchor’, ‘Ustaadi Ustad Ke’, ‘Hum Se Hai Zamaana’, ‘Pyaara Dushman’, ‘Taqdeer and Betaab’ in the early eighties, Sonu has fruitfully carried the exploits as the leading actor in films like ‘Kash Aap Hamare Hote’ and ‘Love in Nepal’. But as a hero, Sonu Nigam made his debut on the big screen with the multistarrer flick ‘Jaani Dushman’ which couldn’t do good business at the box office. Sonu is all set to act in another film called ‘Aakhon Aakhon Mein’ which is going to be directed by his close friend Akashdeep. The film is based on a play called ‘Titlee’, directed by Alyque Padamsee and included Akashdeep himself along with Sharon Prabhakar as the cast.
Our own cap-clad Himesh Reshammiya needs no introduction. A singer, a rockstar, an eye candy for media, this man has got all the appeal…even controversies don’t like to leave him! Wooing us with some of the most popular tracks like “Aashique Banaya Aapne”, “Tera Suroor”, “Naam Hai Tera”, “AfreenTtera Chehra”, “Aap Ki Khatir” etc, Himesh Reshammiya has curved a niche for himself. Truly, he has changed the way music is perceived here. Reshammiya’s success story doesn’t end there. He has got keen interest in acting also. In his debut film as an actor, ‘Aap Ka Suroor - The Real Love Story’ Reshammiya managed to still the show even though the film plunged at the box office. A musical smash hit, ‘Aap Ka Suroor - The Real Love Story’ also had the young and beautiful Hansika Motwani in its lead. Reshammiya will soon be seen in some more films like ‘Aap Kaa Surroor 2’, ‘Karzzzz’, ‘Kajarare’, ‘A Love Isshhstory’ and ‘Mud Mud Ke Naa Dekkh Mud Mud Ke’.
Singers like Shaan, KK and many others have also made guest appearances in Hindi films. Singing sensation Zubeen Garg has also appeared in films like ‘Gangster’ and Strings – Bound by Faith’. Zubeen is soon going to act in a film ‘Chakra’ in the lead role which will be a political drama.
The trend of singers turning into acting is not a new thing. The great Kishore Kumar was himself a noted singer as well as an accomplished actor. So, the game of singers playing actors is not a new phenomenon – only the approach is different, presentation is different.
